Acupuncture is gaining a well deserved recognition as a treatment approach to an extensive and diverse number of physical and emotional problems. Acupuncturists achieve this by using very fine needles, moxa (a warming technique), massage, diet and herbs. This form of medicine also considers preventative treatment as equally important. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and you will only be briefly aware of their presence. Only quality single use sterile needles are used to ensure your safety.

The breadth and diversity of what acupuncture can treat is far too extensive to give a comprehensive list, it is better to call and discuss your individual needs to find out how it could help you.
Some of the common complaints treated are:

  • Pain
  • Menstrual and fertility issues
  • Headaches & migraine
  • Respiratory illnesses
  • Digestive and bowel problems
  • Tiredness & fatigue
  • Recurrent illnesses
  • Pregnancy related problems and health
  • Postnatal recovery
  • Recovery from injury and illness
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Dealing with side effects of other medical treatment
  • Maintenance of your health

Acupuncture and fertility. There is an increasing awareness and evidence that acupuncture may assist in reproductive health both for women and for men. Many couples now have treatment before embarking on a fertility treatment programme such as IVF to improve their potential.

A percentage of people having acupuncture will achieve a pregnancy without further treatment, but it will also benefit you while you are going through fertility treatments such as IVF by enhancing your health and helping with the stresses and physical demands of these treatments.

The increasing recognition that acupuncture can be a safe and effective treatment.
Most side effects of acupuncture are a gain, such as feeling relaxed, then more energised.
It can treat those things, which are not explained in other ways.

At your first consultation a detailed history will be taken. The tongue is examined and the feel of the pulses at both wrists are used to aid the diagnosis, any areas of pain will then be examined. The treatment options will be discussed with you and a first treatment is offered.

Subsequent treatments last about 30 to 45mins. During the treatment you may be aware of changes occurring in your body and you may find yourself feeling very relaxed, this relaxation lasts well after the treatment and these changes may continue to be felt during the day.

Potential side effects of treatment will be discussed but most are very minor or even of benefit such as feeling very calm. If you are driving/cycling you are advised to take a little time to adjust before setting off on your journey. The BAC patient information leaflet is available for you in the waiting area.
Prior to a treatment it is advisable not to drink alcohol or to be hungry so have a snack 2/4hrs before your treatment.

The number of treatments is very variable depending on your condition. Generally I will see you for three treatments and then we can assess your progress. For some simple problems a very short course will be enough. More problematic conditions will take much longer, though you may not need to come as frequently, and for some an extra booster treatment at certain times of the year or at intervals may be a good idea.

Acupuncturists should be registered with a recognised professional body such as the British Acupuncture Council (BAC). This ensures the standard of care. They also offer a service for finding an acupuncturist who is within your locality or has a speciality just go to www.acupuncture.org.uk.

Certificates can be supplied for: Most medical insurance claims and for the Blood transfusion service

There are two sides to acupuncture: 1. The aspect of treating a specific illness. The other side is having a treatment to gain from the deep relaxation and to align things that you may not be aware of.

So often those having treatment miss out on this little event as your immune system seems to perk up with acupuncture and or a supplement to keep you in form.

The levels of stress brought about these annual events often leads to being ill for at least a part of it, acupuncture treatments can reduce the response by your body to these hectic times and allow you to enjoy them instead.

Get ahead of the game with acupuncture clear your mind and become focused.

Its not that unusual a gift. Give someone a time just for themselves and to come away feeling good. Traditional Chinese Medicine has always considered enhancing health as just as important as treating illness. In fact, it believes you should be ahead of the game and maintain health.

Regular treatments in the year usually associated with the changes of the seasons when it is easy to succumb to illness is considered a good idea and it beats vitamin C.
