It has a very high safety level especially if your acupuncturist is a member of a recognised organisation.


Only single use sterile needles are used nowadays to ensure your safety.


Nowadays the trainings are regulated and affiliated to universities. Courses are about three years of full-time education.


The needles are extremely fine (nothing like needles used for injections) You may have a moments awareness as the needle is inserted. After that just enjoy the sense of relaxation.


I wish I could answer this. There is a lot of ongoing research to try and identify how it creates the changes it does but the search has yet to fully explain its effects in western scientific terms. Watch this space.


Its up to you. If you are receiving treatment from your Doctor we will discuss if it is important to liaise with them. It is quite common to combine medical treatments as they can work well together, you may have even been recommended to acupuncture by your doctor.


At your first consultation a full history is taken and there are some treatments and conditions that your acupuncturist needs to know about such as if you are Diabetic, Epileptic, or on Warfarin (blood thinners). But you can always call to find about this.


No you can go about your daily life, it is recommended you take a little time out before driving/cycling as you may be sleepy but this effect is very brief.
